DIGITAL PRESENCE INDEX

Does your business exist for the machines that now decide on your behalf?

We measure a company’s digital presence: where it appears, what is said about it, and whether the AI engines that now recommend businesses find it and cite it.

Assumption and perception

How a brand is perceived is not what the company assumes it to be.

What the company assumes

  • “We show up in search” — verified by searching for its own name, the one term almost every company ranks for.
  • “Our reviews are good” — with no idea whether they are recent, whether they were answered, or whether any machine finds them.
  • Confirming any of this means searching by hand, asking whoever built the site, and stitching together answers that do not compare with another company’s.

How it is actually perceived

  • Which sector queries the company appears in — and which ones it never appears in at all.
  • What is said about it: review volume, recency, average and response.
  • Whether the AI engines that now recommend businesses can read it, cite it and recommend it.

No company controls what is said about it. It controls what it gives them to read.

How a brand is perceived no longer forms only in the people who visit it. It forms in the signals automated systems read, cross-reference and cite. Those signals are observable, datable and comparable across companies — and that is what the index publishes.

How it works

Three steps. One index.

01

Collection

We collect public signals about the company: search, structured data, mentions, reviews and published activity.

02

Measurement

Each signal becomes a dated metric and is compared against the cohort of equivalent companies.

03

Publication

The index publishes the company’s position, the score per pillar and the confidence of the measurement.

Six pillars

Six pillars. One score.

Each pillar measures a distinct dimension of a company’s digital presence. No pillar compensates for the absence of another.

01

Foundation

Speed, security, mobile and accessibility.

02

Machine Readability

Structured data and access for AI crawlers.

03

Discovery

Search, presence in sector queries and local pack.

04

Reputation

Review volume, recency, average and response.

05

External Authority

Press, mentions and directory presence.

06

Activity

Cadence and consistency of content and social.

The index is public.

Each company’s position, the score per pillar, and the method behind them — open to consult.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How is the score calculated?+
The score is the company’s position in the distribution of its cohort across the six pillars — Foundation, Machine Readability, Discovery, Reputation, External Authority and Activity — aggregated with the weights published in the methodology.
Are the measurements estimates?+
No. Every measurement comes from an observable, dated source — never from an estimate, an inference or an opinion.
Is the score a grade you assign to us?+
No. A company’s score is its position in the distribution of a comparable cohort, not a mark we assign.
What happens to what you cannot measure?+
What a company does not have weighs on the score. What we could not measure is never imputed: it is recorded as unmeasured and lowers the published confidence.
Can the methodology change?+
It can. Every score states the methodology version used to compute it, and changes to the method are on the record.
What is Machine Readability?+
It measures whether a company’s information is interpretable by automated systems: structured data, identity consistency across sources, and permitted access for the crawlers of the AI engines that now recommend businesses.
Who decides which companies are in the index?+
Coverage is defined by sector and cohort, from public sources. No company enters the index by invitation, and none changes its position by paying.
Can a score be corrected?+
Yes. Every measurement has a recorded date and source. When a measurement is contested and the error is confirmed, the record is corrected in the next computation cycle.
What does a provisional score mean?+
A score is published as final only with enough measured pillars and a cohort large enough to compare. Below that — too few measured pillars, or a cohort too small for a stable comparison — it is published as provisional, with its confidence stated.
My company is in the index and I never asked for it. Why?+
Coverage starts from public sources, with no sign-up. An index that measured only those who applied would be neither comparable nor independent.
Which data is used?+
Only publicly observable signals: official registries, presence in search engines and directories, content published by the company itself, and public reviews. No personal data and no privileged access.
How do I claim my company’s record?+
Whoever represents the company can claim the record, confirm ownership and see the detail behind each measurement.
How do I contest a measurement?+
Every measurement has a recorded date and source. A measurement can be contested: once an error is confirmed, the record is corrected in the next cycle.
Can I request removal of my company from the index?+
Removal requests are reviewed case by case under the applicable legal framework. The definitive wording will be published in the methodology.
